Nirmala Bhoo-Pathy, who's a medical doctor, completed her master’s degree in clinical epidemiology with cum laude, and a PhD in cancer epidemiology from the University of Utrecht, Netherlands. Her career is focused on improving life after cancer through research on cancer survival, treatment outcomes and patient-centred outcomes in Asia. Dr Bhoo-Pathy is the principal investigator of phase III of the ACTION (ASEAN Costs in Oncology) study, which comprises nearly 10,000 cancer patients from eight member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This study is expected to provide evidence for ASEAN nations to prioritise policies that will reduce financial loss and premature deaths associated with cancer.
