Dr. Nikrad Shahnavaz is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Senior Physician in the Division of Digestive Diseases, Department of Medicine at Emory University. After obtaining his M.D. from Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 2002, he worked in the United Kingdom for one year as a senior house officer in Medicine. Following that, he moved to the United States where he completed his internal medicine residency and then gastroenterology fellowship at Emory University.
Dr. Shahnavaz is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and is currently a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterology Association, and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society.
Dr. Shahnavaz is the director of GI Motility at Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital. He sees patients with different gastrointestinal disorders at the Emory Clinic, performs general endoscopic procedures, and has special interests in GI motility disorders and endoscopic bariatric procedures. He actively collaborates with other clinicians in the departments of surgery, gynecology, cardiology, hematology, and oncology to provide better care for patients with complicated medical conditions. He received the "Clinical Excellence in Gastroenterology Award" from the Emory Division of Digestive Diseases in 2019 and "The hidden Gem Award" from the Emory Department of Medicine in 2020.
Academically, Dr. Shahnavaz has published multiple scientific articles and abstracts, co-authored a book on gastroenterology, presented at several national and international conferences, and been actively involved in the education of medical students, internal medicine residents, and gastroenterology fellows. He received the "Attending of the Year Award" by the fellows of the Division of Digestive Diseases in 2019.
