Niki M. Dietz MD

Dr. Niki M. Dietz is a Professor of Anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science in Rochester, Minnesota, and a distinguished physician-scientist recognized for her contributions to anesthesiology, cardiovascular physiology, and autonomic nervous system research. As a consultant in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, she combines clinical expertise with a longstanding commitment to advancing scientific understanding of cardiovascular regulation and patient care.

Dr. Dietz earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, graduating cum laude from the University of North Dakota, before receiving her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. She completed residency training in anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic, followed by advanced subspecialty training in cardiovascular anesthesia, clinical neuroanesthesia, and an NIH Research Fellowship. She is board-certified in Anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Her research focuses on the autonomic control of the cardiovascular system, with particular emphasis on the effects of aging, anemia, hemodilution, and genetic factors on vascular regulation. Through collaborations with specialists in hypertension and cardiology, Dr. Dietz has contributed significantly to understanding the mechanisms that influence cardiovascular health and disease. Her work has been supported by organizations including the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association.
