Nigel Rulewski earned his medical degree from St. Bartholomew’s Medical School, University of London. After completing his training in pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology, he practiced in the UK, in both London and Guildford.

Dr Rulewski was recruited into the pharmaceutical industry, initially working in Germany and Holland before being transferred to the US. He has held senior management positions, including serving as vice president of drug development for Astra for ten years. In this role, he managed a department that expanded to over 200 employees and achieved approval of multiple NDA’s in the areas of pain control, respiratory, cardiovascular and AIDS indications. In the mid to late ‘80s, Dr Rulewski initiated industry collaborations with AIDS activists groups, served as company spokesperson on AIDS- related drug development issues. He interacted extensively with the media and was interviewed on national television regarding highly sensitive issues confronting the pharmaceutical industry during the early period of the AIDS epidemic.
