Niels Vande Casteele PharmD, PhD

Dr. Vande Casteele obtained his Bachelor in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Master in Drug Development at the University of Leuven, Belgium. In light of the Erasmus program, he performed an undergraduate research internship at the Laboratory for Thrombosis and Hemostasis at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. Driven to pursue an academic career, he obtained his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences entitled “Optimising anti-TNF therapy in IBD patients, a step towards personalized dosing”.
His Ph.D. was a joint effort between the Laboratory for Therapeutic and Diagnostic Antibodies and the Department of Gastroenterology of the University of Leuven, Belgium. He received a renowned three year Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO), allowing him to further pursue his international research ambitions. Currently, he is performing postdoctoral research in the field of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of California San Diego, USA.
Dr. Vande Casteele enjoyed awards as well as travel and research grants from various distinguished professional organizations such as the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation, the Leuven Academic Foundation, the American Gastroenterological Association, the Belgian American Educational Foundation, the Flemish Association of Gastroenterology and the Research Foundation Flanders. His excellent analytical skills, supported by a strong clinical background allowed him to excel as a translational researcher as proven by the many scientific publications in renowned peer-reviewed scientific journals to which he contributed.
