Dr. Nicky is Professional Lead for the Practitioner Training Programme at the National School of Healthcare Science.

She has 33 years of experience working with the NHS. Building upon a foundation of multidisciplinary training across pathology, to specialising in microbiology, to developing scientific services in primary care – she is a woman on a mission. She is passionate about taking healthcare science to the patients - making a real difference to their care.

Eighteen years ago she began developing scientific services outside traditional secondary care trusts - bridging the interface between acute hospital care and community care - in over 70 primary care sites in the UK. She is responsible for the design, delivery, assessment and development of education and training programmes for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, healthcare scientists and other healthcare professionals in the provision of anticoagulation services, including clinical supervision, at master's level, across the UK.

Working at consultant biomedical scientist level in primary care she provides leadership and strategic direction for primary care, Trusts and Clinical Commissioning Groups across the UK in the development and provision of innovative scientific services. In 2007 she won the CSO Healthcare Scientist of the Year award for Innovation in Service Development.

For the last five years Nicky has worked with the CSO and MSC team as Professional Advisor for Life Sciences. She has contributed directly to the design of the MSC programme, the development of MSC policy, the development of the curricula and work based training for both the STP and the PTP. She has also been actively involved in the implementation of the training programmes, with responsibility for accreditation of University programmes for life sciences as a member of accreditation panels.

She is committed to ensuring that the PTP is successfully implemented and sustainable over time to meet the future needs of the NHS and patients.
