Nick Haden has been a Consultant Neurosurgeon for more than 14 years, he was the Clinical Director of Neurosurgery at the regional neurosurgical center in the South West before moving to take up a post at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, London to continue his career in the world-renowned center for spinal surgery.

A University of Cambridge graduate, appointed to a neurosurgical training rotation in Bristol and Plymouth, he subsequently completed spinal fellowships in orthopedic and neurosurgical spine surgery in Leeds and at the internationally acclaimed Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, USA. He was awarded the Norman Dott Medal for the most outstanding performance in the national Neurosurgical Examination prior to consultant appointment.

He established a sub-specialist practice in minimally invasive and navigated spinal surgery, intradural tumors, cord syrinxes, spinal dysraphism, and craniovertebral pathologies in the South West. He employed MIS navigated spinal surgery both routinely and as the leader of a national visitation center for visiting surgeons looking to adopt the techniques

He now has a spinal practice treating all spinal pathologies and delivers minimally invasive and navigated spinal surgery the length of the spine at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and St John and St Elizabeth Hospital. He is a national expert in managing cervical and craniocervical problems, Chiari malformation, intradural and intramedullary pathologies, spinal cord dysraphism, CSF leaks, and thoracic disc prolapses.

He has developed, convened, and taught as faculty or an invited speaker on numerous national and international courses for over a decade; as a consequence, he is well-known and highly respected in the neurosurgical and orthopedic spinal communities in the UK and Europe where he continues to be regularly sought to teach and train other consultant surgeons. He has given national presentations on safety and human factors in surgery as well as surgical risk, its moderation, and its explanation to patients.

Nick is a member of the British Association of Spine Surgeons, the Society of British Neurological Surgeons, Chair of the British Syringomyelia and Chiari Group and the Clinical Lead to the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Committee MSCC Guidelines.
