Dr. Nicholas P. Greene received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Exercise Science from The University of South Carolina and subsequently completed his doctoral studies in Kinesiology/Exercise Physiology at Texas A&M University in 2010. Following the completion of his Ph.D. Dr. Greene completed postdoctoral research at the University of Virginia. In 2013, Dr. Greene opened the Integrative Muscle Metabolism Laboratory at the University of Arkansas. In 2019 Dr. Greene was promoted to Associate Professor in the Exercise Science program. Dr. Greene’s research interest is in skeletal muscle metabolism and the potential corrective effects of exercise on muscle metabolism in disease states. Specifically, interests are focused now on metabolic alterations as a precursor to muscle-wasting conditions such as cancer-cachexia and disuse.

Dr. Greene's research accomplishments include the receipt of 2 NIH funding awards to support his works and, the publication of over 35 research papers since his arrival at UofA including four as principal investigator in the Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia, and Muscle with an impact factor over 12.5, and mentorship of multiple students who have received department, regional and national awards. Graduated PhD students have gone on to prestigious postdoctoral fellowships at Duke, Harvard, and the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. Dr. Greene's teaching is primarily in exercise sciences including graduate courses in the Physiology of Exercise and Exercise Muscle Metabolism and undergraduate courses in Laboratory Techniques and Exercise Prescription.
