Niccolo Mencacci, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Neurology (Movement Disorders) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. His work focuses on the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying movement disorders, with particular emphasis on Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, and related neurogenetic conditions.

Dr. Mencacci integrates systems biology approaches, genetic models, and patient-derived cellular systems to understand how disease-causing mutations disrupt neuronal pathways and contribute to neurodegeneration, to identify novel therapeutic targets.

He is affiliated with the Center for Genetic Medicine, the Denning Ataxia Center, and the Simpson Querrey Center for Neurogenetics at Northwestern. Dr. Mencacci earned his MD and completed neurology training in Milan, Italy, and later obtained a PhD in neurogenetics at the Queen Square Institute of Neurology, University College London. His research is internationally recognized, and he actively contributes to collaborative initiatives advancing the understanding of monogenic and complex movement disorders.
