Nelson M. Lugo is a Senior Director, Contract Manufacturing and Site Lead for San Diego Operations. Mr. Lugo has worked in process scale-up, development and manufacturing of products derived from multiple sources including formulations containing recombinant proteins, synthetic peptides and small molecules. He has managed the technology transfer of products from R&D to Manufacturing at XOMA (US) LLC, Scios, Inc., and Armour Pharmaceuticals Corporation. He’s directed the manufacturing operations for Melville Biologics, Dendreon Corporation, ISTA Pharmaceuticals, Inc and Amylin Pharmaceuticals LLC. Mr. Lugo received his Bachelors degree in Clinical Chemistry from York College, City University of New York and holds an MBA from Adelphi University, New York. He has been a guest lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley covering issues in process development and manufacturing. He is also the author of a chapter on “Aseptic Processing of Biopharmaceuticals” and his most recent article was featured in an issue of Contract Pharma Magazine, “CMO Management throughout the Relationship Lifecycle”.
