Nelson J Aquino, MS, CRNA, is a senior certified registered nurse anesthetist in the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at Boston Children's Hospital and clinical instructor for Northeastern University's Nurse Anesthesia Program. In his position, Nelson is part of the Gender-Affirming Surgical Perioperative Program (GASPP). First of the kind in a pediatric academic hospital, the GASPP anesthesia specialty team developed gender-affirming protocols and procedures to advance transgender anesthesia management in the perioperative environment. Mr. Aquino is a published author and speaker in the care of gender-diverse youth.

Mr. Aquino earned his bachelor's in nursing science degree from Seton Hall University. He completed his master's in nurse anesthesia at Northeastern University and his anesthesia training at North Shore Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Boston Children's Hospital. Currently, he is completing his Doctor of Nursing Practice at his alma mater Seton Hall University. In 2010, Nelson was the first recipient of Seton Hall University's College of Nursing Humanitarian Award for his work in underserved countries. This accolade is named The Nelson Aquino Humanitarian Award for future awardees.

He is faculty for Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School conference "Pediatric Sedation Outside of the Operating Room," where he teaches pediatric dentists and dental trainees in an airway management workshop. Mr. Aquino has educated numerous pediatric dental residents in oral sedation and dental anesthesia at Franciscans Children's Hospital affiliated with Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine.
