Neil Warnock studied chiropody for three years and when he qualified, subsequently ran his own surgery for eight years as well as completing domiciliary work in departmental stores in and around Sheffield, alongside first playing and then managing football teams for both Burton Albion and Scarborough.

It was only when Scarborough were officially promoted to the Football League in 1987, that Neil had to make the decision of which career path to choose. At the time he was unsure which way his career would go but after making the decision to stay with Scarborough, it turned out to be the correct one and the start of a successful career as a Football Manager.

He steered Notts County, through a number of promotions from third division to see them reach the top tier of English football. He then managed a number of other clubs including Huddersfield Town, Plymouth Argyle, Oldham Athletic and Bury, before spending a successful long reign at his boyhood club, Sheffield United. Neil moved to Crystal Palace in 2007 saving them from relegation. He spent a couple of years at QPR gaining them promotion to the premiership league and a brief spell at Leeds United before returning to Crystal Palace with whom he parted company in December 2014. He keeps a close eye on the Premier League as part of his roles as a TV pundit on BT Sport and a columnist in The Guardian.
