Dr Neil Collighan completed his medical training at University of Edinburgh in 1996. He then undertook his speciality training in Pain Management at the Yorkshire School of Anaesthesia.

Neil's specialist interests are in neuromodulation and spinal pain but he has also undertaken training in more complex interventional procedures. These include spinal cord stimulation, intrathecal drug delivery devices and intradiscal therapies. His belief is that all pain management strategies should be a combined medical, interventional and psychological approach in order to provide maximal pain relief for the patient's well-being.

In July 2009, Neil was appointed as a Consultant for Pain Services for the East Kent University NHS Foundation Trust. There he worked in anaesthesia, intensive care and chronic pain management. His current NHS commitments include working at the QEQM hospital, Margate and the Kent and Canterbury Hospital.

Neil is the chair of a national level pain guideline development group and is treasurer in the British Pain Society Interventional Pain Medicine special interest group. He also developed a full multidisciplinary team to deliver a full Spinal Cord Stimulation service for Kent, in particular for chronic pain post spinal surgery, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and chronic peripheral (leg and/or arm) neuropathic pain.
