Professor Dr Nazimah Idris is currently Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, at the School of Medicine; and Medical Director of IMU Healthcare. She is also a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist registered under the National Specialist Registry. She graduated from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia with a Bachelor of Medical Sciences, and a Doctor of Medicine (MD), and completed her Master of Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a Gold Medal award. She was awarded a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the Mater Mothers Hospital, Brisbane to pursue training in fetal diagnosis and therapy.
As a life-long learner, she went on to pursue a Master of Medical Education from the University of Dundee and a postgraduate degree in Healthcare Ethics and Law from the University of Manchester. Prior to her appointment as Medical Director for IMU Healthcare, Prof Nazimah was the Associate Dean of the Clinical School (2014-2016) and later the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and Development at IMU’s School of Medicine (2016-current). She served as a council member of the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Malaysia for several terms (2012-2018) and has been a committee member of the Malaysian Medical Council’s Examination for Provisional Registration since 2019. She is also a member of the Academy of Medicine Malaysia and a life member of the Malaysian Medical Association.
Prof Nazimah also actively served as a panel member for the accreditation of health professional programs under the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). Her fields of interest include adolescent reproductive health, diabetes in pregnancy, and medical humanities. She is an active member of Mercy Malaysia and has organized and participated in many medical humanitarian conferences and projects and is a winner of the IMU Achievement Award for Community Services. She has presented her work in scientific meetings and conferences, both locally and abroad, and has won several awards to date.
