Dr Pathan qualified in Medicine from the University of London (St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School). She completed her postgraduate medical training in London, Oxford and Duke Children’s Hospital in North Carolina, USA. She then undertook a clinical research fellow position in Paediatric Intensive Care at Imperial College London, where she investigated the pathophysiology of myocardial dysfunction in septic shock. She received her specialist training in Paediatric Critical Care in London, obtaining her CCT in Paediatrics and Paediatric Intensive Care in 2006 and beginning a consultant position on the Paediatric Intensive Care at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital, London.
In 2007 she was awarded a HEFCE Clinical Senior Lecturer position which she undertook from 2007 to 2012 at Imperial College London and the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital. In 2013, she was appointed University Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care at the University of Cambridge. She is also an honorary senior lecturer in the department of Systems Medicine at Imperial College London.
