Nazanene Helen Esfandiari, MD is a Clinical Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Service Chief of the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology and Diabetes (MEND). Dr. Esfandiari received her medical degree from the University of Bordeaux II, Bordeaux, France. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency in France and then again at U MASS Memorial Health Center, Worcester, MA. She then completed her fellowship training in endocrinology at the University of Michigan. In 2003, Dr. Esfandiari joined the University of Michigan as faculty.

Dr. Esfandiari’s practice focuses on thyroid cancer, thyroid nodules, thyroid disorders, Post Bariatric patients and general endocrinology. She is also interested in Hyperglycemia Inpatient Insulin Program (HIIP). She sees patients at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center, and Metabolism, Endocrinology & Diabetes (MEND) Clinic at Domino's Farms. She was inducted into Clinical Excellence Society in 2014.

Dr. Esfandiari is a Co-director of Endocrine Sequence at the Medical School since 2009. She is involved in teaching medical students, residents and endocrine fellows. She is a Co-Investigator in the PERL study; an NIH founded research; where the effect of Allopurinol is tested in patient with type 1 diabetes and elevated urine microalbumin. She is also interested in the circumstances of thyroid nodules/ thyroid cancer diagnosis in the United States and is currently involved in a research project addressing these questions.
