Nate received his B.S. in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2008. He continued his scientific endeavors at the University of Maryland, Baltimore in Baltimore, MD and earned his PhD in 2013 working under Dr. Mark Shirtliff. His graduate work focused on elucidating the immune response to S. aureus nasal colonization. He utilized a nasal carriage model in various knockout mice, and discovered clearance of colonization is a T-cell mediated response dependent upon IL-17A signaling and neutrophil influx. Nate joined the Miller lab in August of 2013 and will be working on host-pathogen interactions in a cutaneous model of Staphylococcus aureus infection.
