Dr. Bennion is a graduate of Brigham Young University where he studied neuroscience and began early studies in oncology. As a medical student at the Medical College of Virginia, he developed meaningful relationships with patients, families, and the treatment team in the cancer center. These relationships fixed his interest in oncology. He completed his residency at the University of Nebraska and joined his mentors at the Buffett Cancer Center where he subspecializes in breast and gynecologic malignancies. He is proud to be a part of the multi-disciplinary breast and gynecologic cancer teams. He also spends some time in Shenandoah, Iowa, as the Medical Director where he treats all forms of cancer including genitourinary, gastrointestinal, thoracic, head and neck, central nervous system, sarcomas, and lymphomas.

He also uses advanced techniques in radiation including IMRT, SBRT, stereotactic radiosurgery, and multiple forms of brachytherapy. For gynecologic malignancies, he is very experienced in both intracavitary and interstitial high-dose-rate brachytherapy. He led the cancer center teams to start programs in skin brachytherapy and ocular brachytherapy.

Dr. Bennion's academic interests are in collaboration with translational scientists and his own clinical research where he has published more than 30 studies in peer-reviewed journals with hundreds of citations. He enjoys teaching medical residents, physicist residents, radiation therapists, and nurses. He also serves as the Medical Student Director where he teaches general oncology and principles of radiation oncology.
