Dr. Nathan A. Berger serves as NORC Principal Investigator and as Director of the Administrative Core. Dr. Berger is the Hanna-Payne Professor of Experimental Medicine, Professor Medicine, Biochemistry, Genetics and Oncology and Director of the Center for Science, Health and Society at Case Western Reserve University. He has maintained a long and continuous involvement in DNA repair, stress protein metabolism and cancer research.

Dr. Berger was Principal Investigator of the NCI funded U54 program in Transdisciplinary Research in Energetics and Cancer (TREC) at CWRU. He is a national leader in translational research with an invaluable wealth of experience in leadership roles and faculty development. Thus, both in his own laboratory and through his leadership of the TREC center grant, Dr. Berger has shown a significant commitment to and involvement in studies of obesity, exercise and cancer. He was a member and chair of the NCI parent review committee for clinical program projects. He has served on multiple special NCI review panels for award of Fellowships, Outstanding Investigators and for Minority Institution–Cancer Center Partnerships.
