Dr. Johnson joined Legacy Health as Medical Director of Legacy Cancer Institute in 1996. During her 17 year career she developed numerous innovative multidisciplinary conferences including, GI, Pulmonary, Breast, CNS and Urology. During her tenure the institute has over 150 publications. She pioneered the development of The Legacy Health Tumor Bank in 2009 with initial funding of
$250,000. The Cancer Institute received commendation from the Commission on Cancer and is ranked in the top 6% in the nation. Dr. Johnson was instrumental in
the development of the Good Samaritan Comprehensive Breast Center, which opened in 1999.
Subsequently, accredited Breast Centers were established at Meridian Park, Salmon Creek and the Mount Hood campuses. Her passion for academics and dedication to teaching has led her to become an Associate Professor of Surgery at Oregon Health Sciences University Department of Surgery. In addition, she has served on the American Board of Surgery, the Oregon Medical Board and is past President of the Portland Surgical Society. Dr. Johnson also contributes to scientific literature. She has 84 presentations, 35 Abstracts, 20 posters, 28 publications in peer review journals and has authored two books.
