Dr. Johnson joined Legacy Health1 as Medical Director of Legacy Cancer Institute in 1996. During her 17 year career, she developed numerous innovative multidisciplinary conferences including, GI, Pulmonary, Breast, CNS, and Urology. During her tenure, the institute has over 150 publications. Dr. Johnson was instrumental in the development of the Good Samaritan Comprehensive Breast Center, which opened in 1999.

Subsequently, accredited Breast Centers were established at Meridian Park, Salmon Creek, and the Mount Hood campuses. Her passion for academics and dedication to teaching has led her to become an Associate Professor of Surgery at Oregon Health Sciences University Department of Surgery. In addition, she has served on the American Board of Surgery, the Oregon Medical Board and is past President of the Portland Surgical Society. Dr. Johnson also contributes to scientific literature.

As a leader, she is the past Commissioner of Health, for the Territory of United States Virgin Islands. Dr. Johnson’s undergraduate studies were at Howard University, where she studied radiation therapy technology and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She received her medical degree from Medical College of Virginia graduating with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. She completed her residency in general surgery at Los Angeles County- University of Southern California.
