Asst. Dr. Natasa Popovic is the head of the Department of Medical Physiology and a specialist in family medicine.
She was born in Novi Sad, where she completed primary and secondary school. She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad in 1998.
After graduating from college, she continued her education in the United States. She received her master's degree in 2003 in the field of human nutrition science from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. She defended her doctoral thesis in the field of medical sciences in 2008 at the Department of Medical Physiology of the Texas A&M Center for Health Sciences. As a doctoral student, she was engaged in teaching physiology within the JAMP program (Joint Admission Medical Program), which prepares students for the entrance exam for the medical faculty. In the same period, she also worked as a mentor to students in the laboratory for molecular biology and vascular physiology. After completing her doctorate, from 2008 to 2009, she continued to work as a postdoctoral research associate at the Department of Medical Physiology at Texas A&M University.
In 2009, she was accepted into the family medicine residency program at the Texas A&M Health Sciences Center. During her specialization, she was employed as a resident doctor in the hospitals of St. Joseph and Texas Medical Center. After completing her specialization in family medicine, from 2012 to 2015 she worked as a doctor in the emergency center at St. Joseph in College Station, while teaching medical students at the Texas A&M Health Sciences Center. During that period, she received the Preceptor/Teacher of the Year 2013-2014 award, OC Cooper Preceptorship, which is awarded to clinical professors based on proposals and choices by students. She was elected to the position of assistant professor in 2015 in the course of Medical Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine in Podgorica.
