Professor McCallion is the RCSI Associate Professor of Neonatology and a Consultant Neonatologist in the Rotunda Hospital and the Children’s University Hospital, Temple St. She qualified from University College Dublin, trained in both Ireland and the UK, and completed her Fellowship in Neonatology in the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne. Her MD thesis was on Volume Ventilation of the Neonate.
Her research interests include neonatal ventilation and lung injury, newborn haemostasis, growth restriction and the extremely preterm infant. She plays an active role in education, coordinating and delivering the undergraduate RCSI programme, supporting national and international elective students, organising national courses and facilitating multidisciplinary teaching by lecturing on a variety of nursing postgraduate programs and acting as faculty lead for the Neonatal Module of the MSc in Advanced Nurse Practice (Neonatology).
