Dr. Naiem Moiemen joined the Birmingham Burns Unit in 2000. As Clinical Service Lead for Burns at QEHB, he oversees one of the country’s leading burns treatment facilities, which has developed particular expertise in treating military patients.
Dr. Moiemen specialises in breast surgery, burn care, cosmetic surgery, medico-legal, skin malignancy and hand surgery. As well as his clinical work, Mr Moiemen is Clinical Director for the Midland Burn Network and a member of the Burns Clinical Research Group. He has been an Honorary Senior Clinical lecturer University of Birmingham since 2003.
Dr. Moiemen has developed a research interest in vascularisation and the integration of skin substitutes and aspects of acute burn resuscitation. He led the successful bid for the Healing Foundation Burns Research Centre in Birmingham in 2012 and now he is the Director of the Burns research Centre. The research is focused on the acute inflammatory response after thermal injury.
Dr. Moiemen is also a Visiting Professor of Burns and Reconstructive surgery at Kuwait University Hospital’s Burns Centre at Al-Babtain, Lok Nayak Hospital & assoc. Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, The Red Cross hospital in Guangzhou, China and the Egyptian Medical Military Academy. He is the Principal Investigators on several current grants from different bodies including: The Healing Foundation (£1.5m), NIHR Health Technology Assessment (£412K) and Wellcome Trust-NIHR (1.6m). He is the General Secretary of the International Society for Burn Injury ISBI, and the President-Elect of the European Burn Association EBA, Senior member of the editorial board of BURNS and Deputy Editor-in –Chief of Journal BURNS and TRAUMA.
