Dr. Nadine van Montfoort is an immunologist with a broad background combining expertise in human primary cells, viral infection models, mouse models, and cell biology. Her research is focused on (1) virus-host interactions and (2) the development of immunotherapeutic approaches to cancer and infectious diseases.

Nadine did her PhD at the Department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion at Leiden University Medical Center. The focus of her Ph.D. research was Fcgamma receptor-mediated antigen targeting dendritic cells in the context of cancer immunotherapy. In addition, she investigated the cell-biological mechanisms of cross-presentation by dendritic cells. After her PhD, she did her post-doctoral training at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Erasmus MC University Medical Center Rotterdam (The Netherlands), where she studied the interaction between human dendritic cells and Hepatitis B virus (HBV). Furthermore, she is involved in the development of immunotherapeutic approaches for chronic HBV patients. In 2014, she joined the Hiscott laboratory at the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute of Florida as a visiting post-doctoral fellow to study the mechanisms and pathogen-recognition receptors underlying the initiation of innate and adaptive immune responses to viruses.
