After graduating as a nurse in 1987, Nanda Uitslager worked in the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam for three years. In 1990 she switched to the Haematology and Stem Cell Transplantation Ward of the University Medical Centre Utrecht (UMCU). During the 15 years she worked on that ward, she completed the necessary studies to become an Oncology Nurse (1993) and a Haematology Nurse (1996).

In 2004, she started working at the Van Creveldkliniek (VCK) Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centre as a hemophilia nurse treating both children and adults. Since September 2012, after completing her Masters in Advanced Nursing Practice, she worked as a nurse practitioner at the VCK. Currently, she is involved in the care of children and adults with hemophilia and related bleeding disorders. She plays an active role in the complete care for patients with clotting disorders and is responsible for the management of surgery in her patients – from the treatment plan to care for discharge.

Since 2014 she has been Vice-Chair of the Dutch Haemophilia Nurses Association (NVHV) and plays an active role in driving hemophilia nursing care to a higher level in The Netherlands. She is also part of the team that performs audits on hemophilia centers nationally. In 2017 she trained to become a peer supporter, a service that offers hospital workers an open ear after they experienced a negative work-related event. Since 2018, she is part of a committee that listens to patients who have serious complaints.
