Prof. Mustafa Karahan is an internationally-active orthopaedic surgeon working mainly on sports traumatology, knee surgery, shoulder surgery and arthroscopy. He is currently Adjunct Professor of Orthopedics at the Acibadem Mehmet Ali Aydinlar University, Istanbul, where he is actively involved in CASE (Centre for Advanced Simulation and Training) which hosts the European Basic Arthroscopy Course and the European Basic Arthroplasty Course. After graduating from Hacettepe University in Ankara, Prof. Karahan completed his residency at Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey. He worked at the university from 1988 to 2012 until achieving full professorship where he founded the Marmara University Sports Sciences and Health Research Centre in 2004.

He is well-known for implementing a teaching method in arthroscopic surgery on bovine knee and is the current President of the Turkish Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Society, as well as the past-president of the Turkish Sports Traumatology Association. Prof. Karahan is an executive Board Member of ESSKA as well as the editor of the ESSKA Academy, ESSKA’s online teaching portal. He has published more than 70 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and has made over 150 scientific presentations. He has authored multiple book chapters and was chief editor of the ESSKA-Springer book Effective Training of Arthroscopic Skills and co-editor of Knots in Orthopedic Surgery Open and arthroscopic.
