Dr. Mustafa Gunduz is a faculty member at Yıldız Technical University (Istanbul), Faculty of Education. He completed his master's and doctorate degrees at Ankara University. His main academic fields are the history of education, sociology of education, and philosophy of education. He is particularly interested in the problems of pre-Republican education. Recently, he comparatively examines the development of education and modernization in the 19th century in the context of Middle Eastern countries. He is currently (until February 2015) visiting professor at Princeton University's NES department.

Mustafa Gunduz, Ph.D. (1976), is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education, Yıldız Technical University (Istanbul/Turkey). Graduate Studies and 2006 doctoral thesis at Ankara University. His main research interests are related to the history of education, educational philosophy, and sociology. Focuses are on the history of Turkish education, especially before the founding of the modern Republic of Turkey. He is currently researching modernization and education during the 19th century in the Middle East, and he will compare the modernization process in the Ottoman Empire, Russia, Austria-Hungary, and İran. He will be pursuing his research as a visiting fellow until January 2015 at Princeton University (USA).
