Monika Sarkar MD, MAS

Dr. Monika Sarkar is a transplant hepatologist, a specialist who cares for patients before and after a liver transplant. Sarkar completed her medical degree at UCSF, followed by a residency in internal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She then completed fellowships in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology at UCSF, as well as a master's degree in clinical research.
Sarker's clinical and research interests are at the intersection of women's health and liver disease, including liver disease in pregnancy, reproductive health in transplant recipients and the effects of reproductive aging on disease progression. She has funding from the National Institutes of Health to study the role of sex hormones on the progression of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in women. An assistant clinical professor at UCSF, Sarkar supervises the training of medical residents as well as physicians completing gastroenterology or liver transplant fellowships.
