Monica Fabiani is a professor of Psychology and Neuroscience, and the Assistant Head for Faculty Development in the Psychology Department, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is the Editor in Chief of Psychophysiology and a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science (APS) and the Society for Psychophysiological Research (SPR), of which she was President in 2008. In 2019, she received the Award for Distinguished Scientific Contributions to Psychophysiology, the highest honor granted by SPR. She has authored >180 publications, with continuous support from federal grants.
Monica Fabiani's research interests are in the cognitive neuroscience of human memory and aging, as well as in the development of tools for the non-invasive mapping of human brain function. As is typical of the cognitive neuroscience approach, her research involves the integration of data from different domains, including behavioral responses, neuropsychological tests, and brain anatomy and function (event-related brain potentials, or ERPs; structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI; and optical imaging, including near-infrared spectroscopy, or NIRS, new techniques developed with Gabriele Gratton, the event-related optical signals, or EROS, and more recently measures of arterial elasticity).
