Monica Dhakar MD, MS

Monica Bhagwansingh Dhakar Medical Director at Xenon Pharmaceuticals Inc. She is a board-certified neurologist, specializing in epilepsy. Dr. Dhakar completed a neurology residency from Wayne State University in Detroit followed by a 2-year epilepsy fellowship at Yale School of Medicine in New Haven. Dr. Dhakar has a strong interest in and commitment to education and research.

Dhakar has been the recipient of a young investigator research award from national societies such as the American Epilepsy Society and the American Society of Clinical Neurophysiology during residency and fellowship in addition to being Chief Resident during residency. In her recently begun career as a faculty, she received the Resident’s Friend award in 2018, from the Emory Department of Neurology for her commitment to resident education.

Dr. Dhakar’s research interests include status epilepticus, seizures in critically ill patients, autoimmune epilepsy, anti-epileptic medications and health outcomes in seizure patients. She is member of critical care EEG monitoring research consortium (CCEMRC) currently the site-PI for national trials of treatment in status epilepticus.
