In 2002, Mohammad Abdollahi was promoted to full Professor at TUMS, becoming the youngest to achieve this rank. Since 1997, Mohammad Abdollahi has co-created the Tehran Drug and Poison Information Center (DPIC) and headed it for eight years. He also chaired the Department of Toxicology & Pharmacology at TUMS from 2005 to 2016 and has been the Director of the Toxicology Board for 12 years. He was elected and chaired the Iranian Society of Toxicology and Poisoning for ten years. He has been a part of many prestigious societies, including EUROTOX (Europe), ASPET (US), AACT (US), IFIA, and SOT (US). He has authored over 1000 papers in renowned journals and over 300 book chapters and books. He has received about 45000 citations and has been recognized by Clarivate as one of the top 1% of scientists, evidenced by his extensive patents, including European and US ones. His research interests are Mechanistic Toxicology and Pharmacology, focusing on disease models, genes, and biomarkers, especially those induced during climate change by environmental toxicants. He has identified over 80 chemicals, more than 120 genes, over 35 diseases, over 80 phenotypes, and 36 anatomical terms. According to GS, as of December 18, 2023, He has over 75000 citations and an H-index of over 130, a record in his field. Per Clarivate, he has been in the top 1% of scientists since 2017 in the fields of "Pharmacology and Toxicology", "Medicine", "Social Sciences, General", "Multidisciplinary", and "Environment/Ecology", and thus awarded as a highly cited Nobel class researcher in the Cross-Field line in 2021 and 2023.
Mohammad Abdollahi has contributed significantly to pharmacology and toxicology in research, education, and capacity building. He co-founded He has worked interdisciplinary with other departments to develop new ideas and works. He has also collaborated with key global organizations such as the OPCW SAB adviser in the Netherlands (2012-2018), the WHO Adviser of the Lead Poisoning Group in Switzerland (2011-2021), COPE as a Council/Trustee Member in the UK (2013-2017), and the IAS as an ultimate Fellow (since 2007) and IAS Council Member (since 2023).
Mohammad Abdollahi has received over 30 distinguished awards, including the outstanding international IAS-COMSTECH Award in Pharmacology & Toxicology in 2005. In 2021 and 2023, he received the prestigious Clarivate Highly Cited Nobel Class Award in Cross-Field, which helped TUMS rise 100 steps in the world university rankings in 2021-2023. In November 2023, he achieved the Clarivate 2023 award. He received another award from Elsevier for his works published in their Open Access Journals from 2021 to 2023, which disclosed the hidden role of Environmental Toxicants in the induction or aggravation of Climate Change consequences in humans. These works, published in open-access journals of Elsevier, support the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal. He is also a country correspondent to the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM), a policy framework for promoting chemical safety.
