Mohamed Yousif Hasan Baniyas PhD, DABAT, DABFE, DAAPM, DAPA, FCP, FACFE, FRSPH, FAPA, FFOM (Hon)

Dr. Mohamed Yousif Baniyas obtained his PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Wales (Cardiff), UK in 1993. His clinical qualifications include Diplomate Certification by the American Board of Applied Toxicology, the American Board of Forensic Examiners, the American Academy of Pain Management and the American Psychotherapy Association. He is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology; the American College of Forensic Examiners; The Faculty of Occupational Medicine (Hon) RI; the Royal Society for Public Health (UK); and the American Psychotherapy Association.

Dr Baniyas is currently working as Executive Director Higher Education at the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and academically holds the rank of Professor of Pharmacology & Therapeutics at the College of Medicine, UAE University (UAEU). Clinically he is Consultant Toxicologist at the Emergency Medicine Department, Tawam Hospital, SEHA.

Dr. Baniyas has had an extensive career in academia and has occupied several senior leadership positions in higher education including Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Director of Graduate Studies, Vice Dean & Dean at the College of Medicine, Vice Provost for Health Sciences, as well as Provost and Chief Academic Officer, all at UAE University. He also served as Vice Chancellor at Emirates College for Advanced Education (ECAE), and as a Higher Education Advisor to ADEC and to the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research where he supervised Academic Affairs.

Dr Baniyas has served on many high-level, significant committees including UAE University Council (Board of Trustees), The Marriage Fund Board of Trustees, the Federal Health Authority Board of Trustees, the Global Health Institute Board of Advisors, Masdar Institute Advisory Committee Vice Chair and as a Khalifa Award for Education evaluator. Other selected national committees include the Drug Registration Committee, the Pharmacovigilance and Drug Safety Committee, the Medical Certificates Evaluation Committee and Certificates Equalization Committee.

He has been involved in the accreditation of Medicine and Pharmacy Colleges in the UAE and served as an External Examiner and Evaluator for Universities at international level. Notably, he is founding Chair of the Emirates Board of Medical Specialties. At a professional level Dr Baniyas has delivered continuing education and professional development seminars and workshops dealing with Poisoning, Chemical, Biological and Radiological Warfare Agents, Medication Safety, and Pharmacotherapy of various diseases such as epilepsy, diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis.

He has received various awards and grants, supervised eight PhD students and has published over 100 papers and over 100 conference abstracts in the areas of neuroscience, toxicology (heavy metals, organophosphates poisoning) as well as community health and education. He has also served as editor and reviewer for scientific journals in the medical, pharmacology and toxicology fields
