Mohamad Bassam Sonbol, M.D., is a medical oncologist at Mayo Clinic in Arizona, with clinical and research expertise in gastrointestinal malignancies and neuroendocrine tumors. He serves as Associate Professor of Medicine and Associate Program Director for the Medical Oncology Fellowship.
Dr. Sonbol is actively involved in translational and clinical research, with a focus on advancing novel therapies — including immunotherapy, targeted agents, and radionuclide therapy — for patients with gastric, esophageal, colorectal, pancreatic, biliary, and neuroendocrine cancers. He leads and co-leads multiple investigator-initiated and cooperative group trials aimed at personalizing treatment based on tumor biology and patient-centered outcomes.
His research includes studies exploring predictive biomarkers and therapeutic sequencing in gastric cancer, as well as the molecular and hematologic toxicities of peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) in patients with neuroendocrine tumors. Dr. Sonbol is committed to translating clinical evidence into practice to improve outcomes across both common and rare gastrointestinal cancers.
