Mogher Khamaisi BS, MSc, PhD, MD

Dr. Mogher Khamaisi is Director of the Department of Internal Medicine “D” at Rambam Health Care Campus. He is also an Assistant Professor at the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, where he conducts basic and clinical research. Dr. Khamaisi completed B.S., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in biology from Ben-Gurion University in Beer Sheva, all with honors. He graduated from Ben-Gurion University Medical School and completed his residency in the Department of Internal Medicine “B” at Hadassah Hospital Ein-Kerem in Jerusalem. He also completed a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at Rambam.
Dr. Khamaisi continued his research while completing a post-doctorate in Diabetes at Hebrew University, Jerusalem. Most recently he returned from Boston after completing a fellowship at Joslin Diabetes Center at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Khamaisi's research interests focus on diabetes and its late-disease complications, especially as they relate to the kidney. While at Harvard, he worked in the novel field of human-inducible stem cells from diabetic patients and their use and impact on the treatment of late-complications, especially wound healing. He has received numerous research grants, most recently from the Israeli Academy of Sciences (ISF), as well as many scientific awards, the latest from Harvard Medical School for his research on the use of human-inducible stem cells for diabetic wound healing.
Dr. Khamaisi has published over fifty scientific papers in prestigious international journals, book chapters, and review articles, the primary focus being diabetes and its complications. He supervises graduate students (M.Sc. and PhD.), medical students (MD), and physicians in their research projects.
