Dr. Knutson received his bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Iowa State University in 1992 and his Ph.D. degree in Nutrition from the University of California at Berkeley in 1998. His doctoral research in the laboratory of Dr. Fernando Viteri focused on iron supplements and oxidative damage in animals and humans. From 1998-2003, Dr. Knutson worked as a post-doctoral research fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Marianne Wessling-Resnick at the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, MA, where he studied molecular mechanisms of iron transport. In December 2003, Dr. Knutson joined the faculty at the University of Florida and is currently an Associate Professor of Nutritional Biochemistry.
Dr. Knutson has served as Chair of the Nutrient-Gene Interactions Research Interest Section of the American Society of Nutrition (2006), Chair of East Coast Iron Club (2006-2009), and as a member of the Editorial Board for Nutrition Reviews since 2006. Dr. Knutson also currently serves as the graduate coordinator for the Nutritional Sciences Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program at the University of Florida.
