Miriam Bar-on, MD is the program director for the UNLV School of Medicine’s pediatrics residency. She assumed this role in July 2017 with the transition from UNR to UNLV. Dr.Bar-on has been a medical educator for over 30 years at a variety of medical schools. She was the program director at Loyola in Chicago for seven years before relocating to Las Vegas. In that role, she received multiple teaching and leadership awards and was one of the primary authors of the Academic Pediatric Association’s Guidelines for Residency Training in Pediatrics. Dr. Bar-on served as the associate dean for graduate medical education for the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine for over 10 years and transitioned 300 residents and 17 programs to UNLV. She has been recognized by UNR with the Dean’s Service Award in 2016 and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education’s Parker Palmer Courage to Lead Award in 2015. Dr. Bar-on is a national leader in faculty development. She presents regularly at professional society and other medical education meetings. She is the past chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Group on Resident Affairs, a current member of the steering committee and co-directs their Leadership Development Course. This past September, Dr. Bar-on was invited to Bangkok to give workshops and lectures at the International Conference on Military Medicine
