Mimi Tan MD, MPH

Dr. Mimi C. Tan, MD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Section of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Baylor College of Medicine. She is a physician-scientist specializing in the prevention, early detection, and management of upper gastrointestinal cancers, with clinical expertise in Barrett's esophagus, gastric intestinal metaplasia, Helicobacter pylori infection, esophageal adenocarcinoma, and gastric cancer. Her practice integrates evidence-based care with advanced endoscopic techniques to improve outcomes for patients at risk for gastrointestinal malignancies.

Dr. Tan earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University, followed by her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where she graduated with Distinction in Research. She also obtained a Master of Public Health from the University of Texas School of Public Health. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Baylor College of Medicine, where she continued her career as a faculty member.

An accomplished clinical investigator, Dr. Tan's research focuses on gastric cancer prevention, risk stratification, artificial intelligence–assisted endoscopic imaging, and innovative screening technologies for upper gastrointestinal cancers. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading gastroenterology journals and has contributed to studies advancing computer-assisted detection models, high-resolution microendoscopy, and strategies for improving cancer screening in diverse populations. Through her clinical care, research, and academic leadership, Dr. Tan remains committed to advancing precision medicine and improving the early detection and prevention of gastrointestinal cancers.
