Dr. Milessa da Silva Afonso is a Research Scientist in the Fibrosis group at Gilead Sciences, Inc. Milessa earned her PhD from the University of Sao Paulo Medical School under the supervision of Dr. Ana Maria Lottenberg. She completed her postdoctoral studies at the New York University Langone Medical Center in Dr. Kathryn Moore’s lab, where she expanded her knowledge in cardiometabolic diseases and gained expertise in the fields of immunology and non-coding RNAs. Milessa’s research focuses on finding therapeutic interventions for cardiometabolic diseases.
