Professor Michael Kirby qualified at St Mary’s Hospital, London, and worked as a GP in Hertfordshire. He also worked in the cardiology department at the QEII Hospital, Welwyn Garden City, for 36 years, and provided an open-access echocardiography service for patients with heart failure for the local GPs. He was director of HertNet (the Hertfordshire Primary Care Research Network) from 1998 until 2007. He is now visiting professor at the Faculty of Health and Human Sciences at the University of Hertfordshire, where he was appointed as a consultant to the Clinical Trials Coordinating Centre.

Michael Kirby worked with the University of Bedfordshire as visiting professor at the Institute of Diabetes for Older People. His subsequent clinical work was at the Prostate Centre in London, where he dealt with complex cardiometabolic diseases, sexual problems, and andrology. He is now editor of Trends in Urology & Men’s Health and a member of The Prostate Cancer Risk Management Scientific Advisory Group and the National Prostate Cancer Audit CRG.
