Mikael Eriksson, epidemiologist at Karolinska Institutet Sweden, specializes in developing clinically useful risk prediction models for breast cancer. He is currently investigating how to improve risk assessment by the use of information collected in the mammography screening programs. A fully automated mammographic density measurement tool is developed to better identify the breast cancer risk associated with changes in mammographic density over time. Microcalcifications is studied in relation to risk of breast cancer in screening population and in women with family history of breast cancer. Mikael is also investigating how current mammography screening programs can be extended with additional assessments. Polygenic risk scores and high-penetrance gene risks are investigated for additional improvement in risk association and cost-effectiveness.
