Professor Miia Kivipelto, MD, Ph.D. is Deputy Head of KI-ARC and Professor in Clinical Geriatric Epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. She is also the Research Director of the Neuroepidemiology Unit at the University of Eastern Finland. She is combining research with clinical medicine, working also as a senior geriatrician at the Memory Clinic, Karolinska University Hospital. She has been working in several clinical trials concerning cognitive impairment and AD and is now Deputy Head of the Clinical Trials Unit.

Prof. Kivipelto is the principal investigator in the large population-based Cardiovascular Risk Factors, Aging and Dementia (CAIDE) study and in FINGER. Her research focus is on the effects of and interactions between lifestyle-related and genetic factors on cognitive decline/dementia and the prevention of AD and other aging-related diseases. Prof. Kivipelto has several Ph.D. and post-doctoral students in her research group and she is involved in many international networks and scientific/steering committees. The unique combination as neuroepidemiologist and geriatrician gives a natural platform for the translational research proposed in the research plan.
