Mick qualified as a social worker in 1995, having previously worked in learning disabilities and mental health services since 1987. He went on to work as an Approved Social Worker for 8 years in central London before working as a senior specialist mental health and learning disability practitioner.

In 2005, Mick became the first specialist lead for coordinating adult protection in a London borough and oversaw the development of both casework practice and policy guidance for the next 5 years. During this time Mick both advised practitioners on their safeguarding work and also chaired numerous complex investigations.

As a key member of the London Safeguarding Adult’s Network Mick was involved in the development of the Protecting Adult’s at Risk Pan London Procedures, an area where he now delivers specialist and informed training. This wealth of experience as both a practitioner and strategic lead continued in another London borough after the establishment of MSH. This lead responsibility for local authority safeguarding gives Mick a unique advantage in providing specialist and informed guidance to both individuals and organisations, to ensure they can meet their responsibilities to safeguard adults who are at risk of abuse.
