Michelle S. Howenstine, MD is the Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and Continuing Medical Education and the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) for Indiana University School of Medicine. She is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and works as a pediatric pulmonologist with an emphasis on clinical care and clinical research of children with cystic fibrosis.

Dr. Howenstine is a graduate of Indiana University with a BA in Biological Sciences and a MD from Indiana University School of Medicine. She completed training at Riley Hospital for Children, including both her residency in Pediatrics and as well as her subsequent fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonology. Dr. Howenstine then spent twelve years at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida as the Chief of the Pediatric Pulmonology Section prior to returning to Indiana University School of Medicine. She previously served as the Center Director for the Indiana University Cystic Fibrosis Center as well as the Program Director for IU School of Medicine’s Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship Training Program.

In 2013, she was appointed Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical Education, where she served until being named Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education in 2014. In 2015 she was named Senior Associate Dean with her role’s expansion to include Continuing Medical Education.cation.
