Michelle Moorhouse MBBCh, DA, DPM

Michelle Moorhouse graduated from Wits University in South Africa. In 1999 she became involved in the management of HIV-positive patients, and co-founded the first HIV clinical trial center in Port Elizabeth. In 2003 Michelle was awarded an Honorary Clinical Fellowship at the Royal Free Hospital in London. She also worked in the pharmaceutical industry, holding senior HIV/virology posts in several large companies.

Michelle currently works at Wits RHI, where she is actively engaged in clinical work, research and teaching, as well as sitting on National guideline committees (Adult ART, PrEP, viral hepatitis, cryptococcus, AGYW) to mention a few of her responsibilities. The main thrust of her work currently is in HIV treatment optimisation and she is coinvestigator on the large ADVANCE study. She is a member of the National Third Line ART Committee, which reviews patients failing their second-line regimen and advises NDOH regarding further management, as well as the National HIV Drug Resistance Strategy Steering Committee. She was recently appointed to Primary Health Care Level Expert Review Committee of the National Essential Medicines List Committee.

Michelle holds an Honorary Consultancy at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital as well as a joint appointment as a researcher in the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of the Witwatersrand.
