Dr. Milella graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1992 and specialized in Medical Oncology in 1996. He received postdoctoral training at the University of Texas, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Since 2002, he joined the Regina Elena National Cancer Institute in Rome as Senior Staff Member and Group Leader and leads the Kidney, Pancreatic/Hepatobiliary, and Lung cancer teams.

He also leads a preclinical/translational team, focusing on signal transduction inhibition and identification of molecular/genetic determinants of sensitivity/resistance. Dr. Milella's research activities have been uninterruptedly funded since 2002. Moreover, he has participated to >30 Phase I-IV clinical trials, as either PI or co-investigator. Dr. Milella has published more than 160 papers on international peer-reviewed journals, many of which in a lead author position.
