Dr. Michel Maillard received his MD from the University of Lausanne in 1999. He completed post-graduate training in internal medicine and general surgery at the Hôpital de Saint-Loup (Pompaples) and the CHUV between 2000 and 2003. In 2002, he received his doctorate in medicine following the study of the effects of Infliximab treatment on Crohn's disease under the direction of Professor Jean-Jacques Gonvers. From 2003 to 2007, Dr. Maillard joined the MD PhD program in Switzerland and joined Professor Scott B. Snapper's laboratory in Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston (USA) to pursue a doctorate in life sciences under the direction of Prof. Pierre Michetti.

As an FMH specialist in gastroenterology, Dr. Maillard has been a member of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of the CHUV since 2007. His interests focus on basic and translational research in inflammatory bowel diseases. He is the author and co-author of several articles in the best scientific journals. Her research has been rewarded with national and international awards.
