Michel Eid Farah MD

Michel Eid Farah, MD, is Professor of Ophthalmology of the Federal University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Specialized in Retina Vitreous. He also serves as Post-Graduation Advisor. He was President of the Vision Institute, Brazil, a philanthropic organization focused in eye care in public health. He did his fellowship in retina-vitreous disease at Federal University of Sao Paulo and a research fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami, USA.

Dr. Farah is a member of the Club Jules Gonin, Macula Society, Retina Society, American Society of Retina Specialists, Euretina, Pan-American Retina Vitreous Association and Brazilian Retina Vitreous Society. He has received several awards. He has been President of the Brazilian Retina Vitreous Society and a Delegate of the Pan American Association of Ophthalmology.

He is Involved in prevention of blindness programs, teaching, and the Scientific and Fund Raiser Boards within the Brazilian Council of Ophthalmology, as well as the Brazilian Academy of Ophthalmology. He also created the Diabetic Eye Continuous Campaign in Brazil. Dr. Farah served as Vice-President of the Brazilian Congress of Ophthalmology and Treasurer of the World Congress of Ophthalmology, and has been President of several meetings. He presented the American Journal of Ophthalmology Lecture at the AAO/PAAO in San Francisco, EUA. He is currently the President of the Pan-American Retina-Vitreous Society (2014-16).

Dr. Farah has been very active in eye research and development. He was the Principal Investigator for over 30 multicenter clinical trials evaluating new drugs, devices, surgical innovations, and delivery systems for retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and edema. He is a peer reviewer for several journals and currently, a member of the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Ophthalmology and Associate Editor of the Brazilian Archives of Ophthalmology.
