Professor Michal Schneider working as Research Manager at IMED-MIA (Victoria) and at Monash Medical Centre, Dept of Medical Oncology and Clinical Haematology, Michal joined the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences in January 2005 as Senior Lecturer and in 2009, was appointed Deputy Head of the Department. Within the Bachelor of Radiography and Medical Imaging she convenes, RAD4070 Research in Medical Imaging and is also responsible for teaching the research methods and evidence-based practice units of the Master of Medical Ultrasound. Concurrently, she is the Research Director at the department and in 2016 she supervises 12 Ph.D. and one MPhil student in diagnostic imaging, radiation therapy, and nuclear medicine.

Her research interests include anatomic and functional imaging of breast and lung cancer using PET and the use of ultrasound and MRI in musculoskeletal imaging. Her other research focuses on the possible adverse effects of obstetric and pediatric ultrasound, especially the impact of cranial ultrasound on newborn cognitive function and brain. These studies are also underpinned by research into policies and work practices of sonographers and radiologists. Further, Michal has research interests in ethical and educational issues of imaging professionals, such as occupational burnout among radiation science professionals, the notion of ‘fitness to practice, and role extension for imaging practitioners. She collaborates with numerous clinical and academic centers across Australia and overseas on these and other projects. Since 2000, she has published over 90 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has received a number of grants, including the NHMRC.
