Michal Nowakowski MD, Ph.D. since 2009 chairs the Department of Medical Education of Jagiellonian University in Krakow. His work includes leading the Jagiellonian University Medical College (JUMC) Faculty Development Program, curriculum design, implementation of interactive teaching methods, teaching, and assessment of technical skills. He is also involved in Program Committee at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Krakow, improvement of knowledge, and skill assessment at the Faculty of Medicine. At the national level, he is a member of the Development Committee of the Assembly of Rectors of Polish Medical Schools responsible for the development of a national network of centers of medical education. He also leads a multidisciplinary team designing teaching facilities for JUMC utilizing his skills in educational management, curriculum design, course planning, and ergonomics to maximize the effectiveness of designed facilities. As a general surgeon, he works at University Hospital Trauma Center. His research interests include the assessment of complicated motor tasks during training, cultural differences and their impact on teaching and learning, and experimental surgery.
